A pool shell is a reinforced concrete structure first and a swimming pool second: the same groundworks, formwork and reinforcement trades we run on every job, built to hold water instead of a floor slab.
What's included
Built like any structure that has to hold its shape
A domestic pool is excavated, formed, reinforced and poured the same way as a basement or a retaining structure, just with tighter tolerances and a waterstop detail at every joint. Because we do the groundworks, formwork and reinforcement ourselves, the same crew stays on the pool shell start to finish, instead of it being passed between subcontractors who've never worked together before.

Domestic & commercial
What makes a pool shell different from a basement
Structurally, not much. Both are reinforced concrete boxes built to keep water out, or in. The difference is what happens at every joint.
Waterstop at construction joints
A strip cast into the concrete at every joint between pours, stopping water tracking through the one weak point in an otherwise solid shell.
Tighter tolerances
A pool shell is checked to finer tolerances than a standard slab or wall: steps, benching and the waterline all have to come out exactly to the pool engineer's design.

We've built domestic pools for self-builders across Cambridgeshire and larger shells for commercial leisure clients, both to the same waterstop and tolerance standard.
